Framing the Infinite - A Philosophy of Tension-Based Composition
Framing the Infinite articulates a theory of tension-based composition. This approach reorients landscape painting away from the depiction of objects and toward the expression of relational tensions—moments where opposing forces such as presence and absence, form and dissolution, structure and atmosphere interact. In this essay I present a set of compositional tools that use a deliberate manipulation of compositional lines, atmospheric fields, and perceptual thresholds, designed to compose images that will translate the infinite into the finite while preserving the dynamic tension that defines both.
